Music has always been a big part of my life, and I started exploring different genres at a young age. Growing up in the vibrant city of London, I was exposed to a diverse range of music, from soul, jazz, funk, ska and reggae to name a few. I loved how music could connect people from different backgrounds and bring them together. In the mid-80s, I started DJing with my brother Jazz T and some friends. We started off playing music at house parties and small events, using our sound system called Groovers Soul Power. We played soul, jazz, funk, and rare groove music, and the crowds loved it. We would often spend hours perfecting our mix and trying out new tracks. It was hard work, but it was also a lot of fun.
It was in 1989 DJ Mad B, ignited a revolution in the airwaves with the inception of Friends FM, a pirate radio station that would become synonymous with cutting-edge sounds and underground movements. With the launch of Friends FM, I found a platform to share my musical passions with the world. Hosting a weekly show, I curated a sonic journey through the realms of jazz, dance, and fusion music, captivating listeners with an eclectic blend of genres and styles.
As the winds of change swept through the musical landscape, I found myself drawn to the mesmerizing allure of house music. Enthralled by its innovative sounds and infectious beats, I succumbed to the allure of the burgeoning house genre, embracing its spirit of experimentation and creativity. Encouraged by the evolving musical landscape, I embarked on a new venture, delving into the world of house music with a second radio show. This period marked a transformative chapter in my musical journey, as I navigated the crosscurrents of the UK jazz dance scene and the meteoric rise of house music in the late 1980s.
Now I find myself returning to my roots, sharing my passion for soulful house and my unique "fusion of grooves" selection with audiences worldwide. As i embark on a musical odyssey through the realms of house, soul, and beyond. Whether tuning in live or catching up on Mixcloud, I invite you to experience the magic of music in its purest form.
